New Community Te Reo Māori Language Domains
This is the first year Te Ataarangi ki Tāmaki Makaurau has focused on developing new community-based, full immersion te reo Māori language domains. Therefore we are still very much at the beginning of the journey. Our initiatives this year include Kapa Waiata o Te Ataarangi, Kapa Waiata ki Te Herenga Waka, Wānanga Reo with Haranui Marae, Wiki o te Reo Māori events and a number of new kura pō / rā (community day /night classes). We’ve seen community members stepping into their reo journey with courage, support, and a real sense of kotahitanga, growing the acceptance of immersion reo Māori domains in our area.
As the year draws to a close, Te Ataarangi ki Tāmaki Makaurau will be winding down. The final big kaupapa for 2025 is the Hui Whānui o Te Ataarangi at Waahi Paa. This is a national event – a time for us all to come together, reflect, and celebrate the journey we’ve shared. We encourage everyone to join us at Waahi Paa for this special time. It’s a chance to strengthen our connections, enjoy each other’s company, and close the year celebrating our reo rangatira.

2026
Looking ahead to 2026, we’re excited to continue building our immersion te reo Māori domains through a range of events. This means more kura, wānanga, and events designed to connect our communities of learners and celebrate te reo Māori in fun and meaningful ways. Whether it’s whanaungatanga over shared kai, practising kōrero in real-life settings, or celebrating milestones together, our vision is to keep creating safe, encouraging spaces where reo Māori can flourish.
Do you want to be part of this growing community? We’d love to welcome you in – as a tauira, as whānau, or simply as someone keen to support the kaupapa of Te Ataarangi. Together, we can strengthen te reo Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau, one kupu Māori at a time.
