Te Āpōpōtanga

Te Ataarangi ki Tāmaki Makaurau delivers immersion-based language learning sessions through night classes, day classes, and weekend wānanga. As part of the national goal to graduate at least 1,000 students, we create opportunities for learners to develop their confidence in te reo Māori while supporting them to create personal language plans.

Beyond the classroom, we encourage students to use and strengthen their reo within their whānau, workplaces, and wider communities, fostering natural environments where te reo Māori is celebrated and normalised across Tāmaki Makaurau, from Hakapirau in the north to Pōkeno in the south.

Pokapū Rumaki

Our Pōkapū Rumaki are community-based language domains and events where te reo Māori is lived, celebrated, and normalised. These hubs create opportunities for whānau and communities to connect, learn, and practise te reo Māori together in a supportive environment. By fostering speaker communities, we make the reo more accessible and encourage whānau to develop language strategies that ensure its intergenerational survival.

Follow our social media pages to stay up to date with reo Māori events, wānanga, and community initiatives happening across Tāmaki Makaurau — from Hakapirau in the north to Pōkeno in the south.

Te Māhuri | Kotahi Kapua

Te Ataarangi ki Tāmaki Makaurau is committed to growing the next generation of kaihakaako through a national plan designed to increase the number of trained teachers in the Te Ataarangi methodology.

Our goal is to graduate new māhita, equipping them with skills in language planning and supporting intergenerational language transmission. Training also embraces our regional variations of reo and tikanga, ensuring relevance within our communities.

We welcome trainees from all pathways — including Kura Kaupapa graduates, iwi representatives, and those passionate about hakarauora reo — with opportunities for new māhita to transition into full-time teaching roles.
